Fancy February

Greetings earthlings! It is I, Celina, who comes from a whole other planet of make-up and beauty and all things creative.

A lovely gal pal of mine Miss B took a little trip to California and brought me back an amazing book! "Retro Makeup: Techniques for Applying the Vintage Look" by Lauren Rennells. And I will tell you all now, it is the perfect book to have if you are interested in Decade make-up. (I want the hairstyling book too!)

After reading most of it and skimming through all the amazing pictures, my mind started to think (as ones mind should normally, all though I've met quite a few people who's minds don't).
How come, up until around the 1990's women truly cared about their make-up? Basically what I'm asking is, WHAT HAPPENED??
Make-up used to be this incredible precious gem that women would spend hours in front of the mirror putting on ever so gently and precise.
Women would follow fabulous trends. Whether it be rouging their cheeks and earlobes, shaping their brows into the perfect curve, or drawing on fake little lower lashes. It amazes me all of the possibilities and how all of these fads were worn by so many ladies.
The thing is, women used to take the time to look special. Make-up was a necessity and a secret that they kept from men so everyone thought they just woke up looking so incredible.
WHAT HAPPENED?? WHY ARE WOMEN SO LAZY?

Sorry, I started to rant there. But seriously, if you are reading this and you think I am a nut job then you probably should not be a Too Dolly reader... but I ask you, if you don't wear make-up, why don't you wear make-up? And don't give me any crap about how it's bad for you, or you have sensitive skin, or you don't know how to put it on, because I don't believe you. There are so many options it's ridiculous! It's 2012, use google! Or ask me! Use the little comment box below. I will answer your question.
Ladies, for those of you who do wear make-up.. are you stuck in the same old routine make-up day in and day out? Why? Change it up! You don't have to look like Cleopatra, but have a little fun now and then!

Here are a few things I've done in the last week or two to change up my look, just because I can and because I want life to be fun.

PINK MASCARA!! Super fun right! and EASY.
Hello, I just PUT IT ON LIKE REGULAR MASCARA. Wow. Is your mind blown?
And guess what? I didn't get it at some crazy expensive secretive make-up shop either! I bought it at WAL-MART for $7!! The brand is called HARD CANDY. Go get it. Wear it. It's cute. And there are many more colours to choose from.

Another look I tried out recently.. warning, it's a little advanced..

1960's inspired! I used pot liner (I used Cobalt Blue from Stila) and an angled eyeliner brush. But you can use whatever liner you want! Just set it with a power! How adorable is this? It really opened up my tiny eyelids too!
After reading my retro book I really wanted to wear my eye make-up like this. Imagine, waking up every morning in the 60's and this was your regular routine.. ohhh a girl can dream..

Please use your imaginations & get fancy. And seriously, leave me a comment if you have a question or want to tell me I am a werido or anything your heart desires. And remember.. Life is too short to look boring!!

Crystal Award

Sparkle Sparkle!

On Thursday night, my loving parents and my mustache Movember faced boyfriend and I got dolled up and headed downtown Vancouver to the Villa Amata Ballroom for the John Casablancas Obsidian Fashion Show. The venue had an amazing view of Vancouver with Science World all lit up in the background. We grabbed our front row seats by the runway after taking a peak at the silent auction items, and then I made my way backstage to check-in to receive my award for Outstanding Achievement in my class.

Tracy, Katie & I
It was great to see so many familiar faces & instructors. Before the awards, two girls went down the runway in the dark with light up hoola-hoops dancing around to dubstep music. They were really talented and put on a unique little show. While receiving my award on stage I was praying to myself that I wouldn't trip and fall in my sparkley shoes. I clutched on to my heavy crystal award with my name ever so nicely etched into it and enjoyed the rest of my evening, catching up with old friends and watching skinny girls trot down the runway in trendy clothes in John Fluevog shoes. Later my mom "won" some great items at the silent auction including Tim Horton's coffee, and some really cute hand-made jewlery. As we were leaving the snow was falling outside slowly covering Vancouver in a white blanket. It was a nice little evening indeed!

networking ;)

Hey Craig,

I know you're probably reading this because we shared a very intimate moment at Deluxe restaurant. Here's the photo you asked to take with me. I hope the rest of your movie shooting goes well, and if you ever need a make-up artist, you know who to call.

Sucker Punch

Last night I went to the movies with my boyfriend, and he suggested we see Sucker Punch. At first I thought this movie was just going to be fun for him, watching cute girls prance around punching things. But actually, it turned out to be really good! Not only am I jealous of all the cute costumes and outfits the girls got to wear (while kicking ass I might add) but the make-up was incredible!

The key make-up artist for Sucker Punch is a woman named Rosalina Da Silva. She's also worked on The Watchmen, X-Men and Tron. Clearly she knows what she's doing.
Just check out this beautiful classic, almost 60's inspired make- up on Baby Doll.

Gorgeous right? I know. I'm jealous. I looked into see which were the most used make-up products on set aaaaaaaaaaaaaand it was...
M.A.C Fluidline in Blacktrack! Available at a MAC near you. It is awesome liner if you have never used it.

They also used various other brands such as ArmaniKevin AucoinKett, and Kryolan. And clearly the foundation is airbrushed, hense the flawless face. Although, it's not too hard to make Emily Browning look flawless, she's beautiful.

Speaking of that little actress (I say little, but she's actually the same age as me) she has had so many different, yet amazing looks! She's a pale almost anime looking blonde bombshell in Sucker Punch, but then look at how adorable and edgy she looked at the premiere! Cute!
I love those deep violet lips. I'm pretty sure she could pull off anything.

If you love girls, fighting, lingerie costumes, suspense, action, and MAKE-UP, please go see Sucker Punch.

That's my 2 cents for free!

A Star is Born!

Have you ever been to a celebrity look alike party, and there's that one person at the party that went all out and looks so much like that celebrity that it's creepy? It is so much fun to dress up like someone else, and basically make fun of the way they look so you can pull it off. Celebrity Look Alike day was on Friday and we could choose a celeb (of any era) to do our partner's make-up & hair to look like a famous person. I thought to myself, "Well Celina... there's not too much crazy make-up going on these days. Most famous women in the 2000's have smokey eye eyeshadow. Lady GaGa? Well, my partner looks nothing like her. I need something challenging and amazing... but what?" so that's when I went back in time to the 1960's and found a gorgeous face and even more gorgeous make-up to turn my partner Kelsey into the King's wife herself, I give you...

 Priscilla Presley

 How effing fabulous is that?
(I put 2 bumpits into that wig to make the beehive by the way)

Ooooooh the magic of make-up. I'm telling you people, I can make you look like a star! Literally! And if Priscilla doesn't tickle your fancy, how about looking like a Vegas Show girl?

Believe it baby! xox Celina

Luscious Ladies

Ever notice how trends just keep going around in circles?

The look that was popular 60 years ago, finally comes back into style because the world has run out of new ideas. Well that's fine with me, so long as the 80's don't make a huge comback (because I'm pretty sure in 2020 I will totally want to look like Boy George... ew). I am more into the classic beauty look, and if you have been keeping track of recent celebrities, you would notice that stars are looking a lot more elegant these days. I am thrilled about this because I don't think anyone should put on their makeup to look like Ke$ha in the morning, rather pick a better role model to be inspired by.

The only loud girl in the world herself is a perfect example. Rihanna is becoming the "it girl" and there's no doubt she will continue with her success into the New Year. Sure, her fiery red hair is a little crazy, but it totally suits her and she is using it as her main accessory. Little Miss Ri-Ri has been a bit more tame with the make-up and has been focusing on her natural beauty. She's emphasising her own body and facial features. I see the 1950's dolled up, elegant and flawless look making a comeback, and Rihanna is the perfect young woman to pull it off and bring it back. Marilyn flaunted it, and though it's been changed and tampered with throughout the years, there's no doubt that timeless make-up is back, and in high demand.

Rock those lips ladies!

Fabulous!

This just in, I have a girl crush!

So, as some of you may know, I have a weird obsession with Harry Potter. I know right? Everyone thought that was over, but not for me. I'm not going to lie to anyone, but I have been waiting in line dressed up as a character from the books going to the movie premieres at midnight for the past 3 years. (Part 1 of HP7 I along with my loving and also nerdy boyfriend will be going as Death Eaters, masks and dark marks and all) ANYWAYS. N'uff 'bout me, let's move on to bigger and SHORTER things ie Emma Watson (Hermione Granger). She cut off all of her beautiful locks of hair and looks so amazing. This girl can rock a 1960's Twiggy look I am telling you!
See for yourself!

Absolutely FABULOUS!
I love this girl. And her make-up is so simple and elegant. Natural beauty makes a huge statement!
